GLASS WATER STAIN REMOVAL
Hard water spots are caused when water containing high mineral content comprising mainly of calcium and magnesium, evaporates on the glass surface ie. when water droplets are left to dry on the glass surface.
Some of the main causes of hard water stains in glass are:
- Water left to dry on shower doors after showering
- Water from your garden sprinkler constantly hitting your windows
- Water from your pool containing chlorine hitting your windows
- Sea salt if you live near the coast
Glass is porous and if left untreated over a length of time can cause irreparable damage. To reduce the risk of long term damage to your glass, the following is recommended:
- Wipe down your shower door using either a squeegee or cloth after each shower
- Regular clean your shower door – ideally weekly
- Apply a water stain protectant that can be purchased at your local hardware store. You should carefully read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions first before applying. Also note that any protection used is unlikely to be a permanent solution and will need to be reapplied after a period of time recommended by the manufacturer
- Regularly have your windows cleaned particularly if you live near the coast or have a swimming pool
